Pencil has always been the child's early fantasies.When the child actually begins to write he or she gets fascinated looking at the pencil that probably prompts the interest in writing.Today pencil comes of various colour and shapes and that tends to attract the child even more.The largest pencil sporting a length of 76 ft could be proclaimed as the mother of all writing pencils.
The giant pencil's creator Ashrita Furman decided to get it displayed inside Skateless park,3rd Floor,City Museum,St Louis,Missouri,United States of America.The whole pencil weighs 18,000 pounds with a 2 and half ft long eraser at the other end.The lead weighing 4500 pounds with 10 inch thick graphite.Almost 8000 wooden boards and 10 inch graphite pieces were used to build the pencil.If that was not enough to attract children the pencil can be used for writing like any other ordinary pencil and has a real eraser made of original rubber.It took them an estimated 7000 man hours to finish the project and get it displayed on January 18,2007.
Ashrita Furman along with 40 volunteers worked for two weeks to get the pencil to full shape.In order to give a surprise everyone on his teacher Shri Chinmoy's birthday he set out to create the largest pencil on August 27,2007.
